A MESSAGE FROM THE GENERAL MANAGER
“Tradition is a guide and not a jailer.”
W. Somerset Maugham Traditions are the periodic renewal of memories, which is what enables the memories to persist. One condition of a tradition is that it must be passed from generation to generation. Traditions come in all sizes and shapes. Some are large, some small. Some span a country, others span the globe. There are family traditions, national traditions, school traditions and yes, even golf traditions. The Bobby Nichols Fiddlesticks Charity Foundation ‘s annual pro-am invitational golf and tennis tournament —the Nichol’s Cup—is our tradition, and one every member can be proud of. Held during the Presidents’ Day weekend, the tournament has raised more than $20 million for nonprofit organizations since its inception. That has meant much-needed help for more than 100,000 children in Southwest Florida during the last two decades. The Foundation’s two primary charity partners are the Children’s Advocacy Center of Southwest Florida and Abuse Counseling & Treatment. Additional beneficiaries include Blessings in a Backpack, Liberty Youth Ranch, Catholic Charities, Diocese of Venice and Pace Center for Girls, Lee. Founded in 2002 by residents of Fiddlesticks Country Club, the Nichols Cup golf tournament is one of the most successful community-sponsored pro-am tournaments in the U.S. and recognizes the contributions and accomplishments of Bobby Nichols, a 12 time winner on the PGA tour, including the 1964 PGA Championship. The Nichols Cup is a tradition that highlights the incredible generosity of our membership, and is something that distinguishes this club from all the others in Southwest Florida. The Friday night wine pull, incredible silent and live auctions, tennis, pickleball, and golf tournament are all supported by hundreds of member volunteers who bring the entire community together. Some traditions are motivated by competitive rivalries, others by nostalgia. The Nichols Cup is unique in being a tradition of compassion. The event creates memories, but it also creates opportunities for at-risk kids who often haven’t had many chances at success in life. It’s an example of what makes a club great, and a great club. Whether you play in the pro-am, attend the gala and participate in the auctions, or serve as a Piper, know that you are creating and sustaining a tradition that’s making a difference. Best wishes to you and your family for a healthy and prosperous New Year. Al Antonez, CCM, CCE General Manager/Executive Vice President

MICHAEL VAN SCHARREL Director of Golf GOLF
GOLF SHOP HOURS OF OPERATION: Daily 7AM-5PM
As we step into a new year here at Fiddlesticks, we’re reminded that while time moves forward, the essence of our great game—and the spirit of our club—remain timeless. Golf has always been more than a sport; it’s a tradition built on integrity, camaraderie, and respect for both the game and one another. These values continue to define who we are, both on and off the course. Each round played on our fairways is a reflection of golf’s enduring principles: the handshake on the 18th green, the quiet focus before a putt, the friendly conversation walking down the fairway. These moments, simple yet profound, are what connect us to generations of players who came before—and to those who will follow. As we begin a new year, we also celebrate the traditions that make Fiddlesticks special. Whether it’s our annual member tournaments, spirited couples’ events, or the casual afternoon rounds that turn into stories shared over dinner in the clubhouse, these experiences remind us that golf here is not just a game—it’s a shared way of life. In the coming season, we’ll continue to honor these traditions while embracing new opportunities to enhance your experience— fresh events, refined programs, and thoughtful touches that bring together the best of golf and club culture. Together, we’ll carry forward the timeless values that define our community, ensuring that each new year feels both renewed and familiar. Here’s to a year of fairways hit, friendships deepened, and traditions continued.

JULIUS MINARIK EXECUTIVE CHEF CULINARY
As we welcome a new year at Fiddlesticks Country Club, I am reminded that food is more than nourishment it is tradition, memory, and connection. Each season brings its own rhythms and celebrations, but the New Year holds a particular significance. It invites us to reflect on where we've been, look ahead to what's possible, and savor the moments that bring loved ones together around the table. This year, my culinary team and I are focused on honoring the timeless traditions that make Fiddlesticks such a special place, while continuing to elevate the dining experience with fresh creativity and inspiration. Many of our members have deep, heartfelt attachments to classic dishes recipes that remind them of family gatherings, cultural heritage, or holidays spent with friends. Our goal is not to replace these traditions, but to celebrate them. You'll see this reflected throughout our winter menus: the comforting flavors of slow-braised meats, the elegance of fresh seafood, the aromas of hearth-style baking, and the refined simplicity of seasonal produce. At the same time, we are introducing subtle contemporary touches lighter preparations, global influences, and sophisticated plating allowing tradition and innovation to coexist seamlessly. One of the greatest privileges of serving this
community is witnessing the joy that food brings to our members. Whether it's a casual lunch after a round of golf, a holiday celebration surrounded by family, or a special dinner in our dining room, the experience is always about more than the meal. It's about memories in the making. As we enter this new year together, I want to express my gratitude to
our members for their continued support, feedback, and enthusiasm. Your passion for great dining inspires our team every day. We remain committed to excellence, to exceptional hospitality, and to creating moments worth savoring. From all of us at Fiddlesticks Country Club: cheers to a new year, to timeless traditions, and to the meals and memories we will share together.

GAYLE FRENCH AND DIANA DONAHOE DO YOU KNOW?
Kathy Morris, the Tennis Shop Office Manager, is such a staple to the Fiddlesticks Community. She has been working here for twenty-five years. Kathy started as a hostess and banquet team employee in 2000, but when Jeff Diggs, who knew about her background as a preschool teacher, asked her to help out with his camp during her first summer, she jumped at the opportunity. She has been working in the tennis shop ever since. Kathy has many responsibilities in the tennis shop. In addition to training at least ten or more assistants over the years and working with the tennis and pickleball members, she is in charge of all store merchandise. She has a great sense of style and vision. Her success comes from listening to what the members want and then finding it. She attends merchandise tennis shows twice a year and is always looking for new ideas. She loves her ability to be creative in her job and having the
opportunity to make the members happy. Kathy was born in Chicago and moved to Southwest Florida when she was nineteen. Her grandparents lived near Paseo, and her father took a job on Marco Island. In 1983, she married her husband, Earl, and the two of them have raised four children here in Fort Myers. Three of those children, Danielle, Jessica and Moriah, have also worked in the tennis shop alongside their mother. Kathy and Earl have seven grandchildren, ranging from fourteen years old to nine months. The whole family lives in the area and they get together for family dinners at least once a week. When Kathy is not in the tennis shop or spending time with her family, she enjoys playing piano and being involved in the worship team at her small church. She is currently decorating her home after a renovation project. She likes to travel and has especially enjoyed her recent trip to San Francisco. Kathy, we’re so fortunate to have you as part of the Fiddlesticks family.

FLGA / 9 HOLERS
MELISSA GILMORE President
COLEEN SIZE President
As we welcome a New Year and celebrate the timeless traditions that make Fiddlesticks feel like home, the FLGA is gearing up for an exciting and memorable 2026 season. We’ll kick things off with our beloved Country Classic Tournament. Committee Chairman Gayle French will kick off the event with the always-spirited pairing party on January 6, followed by two days of fierce and friendly competition on January 7–8. Keep an eye out for the sign-up— this is one event you won’t want to miss! Next up, mark your calendars for February 26 when we’ll host our FLGA One-Day Member- Guest Tournament. Under the leadership of Karen Bryant, the committee has been working tirelessly to bring us a day filled with great golf, fabulous fun, and an evening of dinner and dancing. With the theme “Tees and Tunes,”be sure to bring your best swing *and* your dancing shoes! And because we simply couldn’t let a season go by without something extra special, we’re thrilled to announce a Copa Cabana Dinner Dance Party in place of our traditional two day Member-Guest. Expect live music, lively energy, and a few surprises that will make the night unforgettable. As we head into the year ahead, we wish everyone a season overflowing with friendship, laughter, and all the joy that golf at Fiddlesticks brings. After all, "it’s not the grass we walk on —it’s who we walk the grass with."
FLGA 9-Hole Golf
As our fall season ends, we revel in the fun and fellowship we had. We also look forward to a new year of sponsoring timeless traditions and having a bit of new fun to celebrate
friendship, gratitude and golf. The Fiddlesticks Ladies Golf Association Nine-Hole Group (9-Holers) celebrated the start of the season with a wonderful opening luncheon and much fun on the golf course! We were all happy to renew our friendships and play a little golf! On November 6th, 9-Holers joined Fiddlesticks men and women in the Golf Fore Partners for Breast Cancer Care, a charity event for an organization that provides breast cancer support and education. It was quite a good time, raising awareness and money for research and support. We also supported the Homeless Veterans during our Veterans’ Day event. This is a yearly collection by the 9-holers of toiletries, accessories, and warm clothing. The veterans are supported by American Legion Post #38. Each year there is a great outpouring of support with many thanks and recognition by the Post leadership. In December, we exercised our abilities to NOT lose the Santa Ball. With lots of laughter we kept that ball on the fairway. Our luncheon was a joyful celebration of the season organized by new volunteers; it was especially great to see new involvement and new members building our organization. We once again donated gifts and money for the children at Valerie’s House, a dedicated children’s grief center. And Coleen Size, president of the organization, opened her home for a lovely Christmas celebration. We announced our nominating committee for the 2026 2028 FLGA 9-Hole leadership. The 5 slots are: President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer and KISS/Invitational Coordinator. If you are interested in participating in any of these roles or know of someone else who would be interested, please contact Missy Franks, Susan Santos, or Barb Walder who will create the slate. Our Board has had
a wonderful time working with Bud Hunsicker and we think you will enjoy your roles! As you can see, Fall was a great start to our 2025-2026 year. We have fewer events this year but will have some surprises in the spring. So, get ready to add some fun to our timeless traditions!

GIRLFRIENDS I'm a fan of women who:
Lift each other's crowns. Empower one another. Celebrate victories together. Inspire without competition. Support each other's growth. Avoid hurtful comments. Spread kindness and positivity. Build each other up, never tear down. Nurture sisterhood and camaraderie. Stand united against negativity. Amplify each other's voices. Create a supportive community. Honor each other's uniqueness. Two simple words —thank you— never feel like enough to express our gratitude. Since 2017, the Building Futures Scholarship Fund has been blessed by the incredible generosity of our Fiddlesticks community. Because of your support this year, we were able to award twelve $3,000 scholarships to deserving recipients. They are grateful too, and many have shared just how much these scholarships mean to them and their families. Your generosity not only eases the financial burden of higher education but also inspires them to keep working hard and pursuing their dreams.

TRICIA BENTON & TRICIA ROBERSON Co-Presidents GARDEN & LIFESTYLE CLUB
Fiddlesticks Garden & Lifestyle Club At our November meeting., the Club was delighted to welcome Jefferey Workman and Meg Ozbirn of Suncoast Interior Scapes for an engaging and informative program on living walls. Jeff presented two different living wall systems: "Live Wall" and "GSky". He demonstrated their proper installation techniques and walked members through recommended plant choices for our region. His hands-on presentation made it easy to understand how these systems can be incorporated into both residential and community spaces. Meg then constructed a beautiful orchid and airplant interior scape, showcasing how elegant and low maintenance the arrangements can be. She also reviewed key points of orchid care, emphasizing the importance of avoiding overwatering. Meg concluded the program with a lovely inspiration for all of us: "Why try to explain miracles to children when you can just plant them a garden?" The centerpieces were mini scenes to inspire live wall applications as they may relate to the enjoyment of your outdoor spaces and activities. Created by the FGLC officers: Tricia Roberson, Tricia Benton, Jane Tisdale, Lisa Watkins, Kathi Ogan and Marsha Shaw.
Please join the Fiddlesticks Garden & Lifestyle Club family! We have fantastic, educational luncheons and activities scheduled for this season: January 14th Luncheon - Cape Coral Friends of Wildlife will deliver a presentation on butterflies. February 11th Luncheon - Bruno's restaurant owners will discuss Italian food, entrepreneurship, and the upcoming new market they'll be opening. The Bionic Advisor: Will Artificial Intelligence Replace Your Advisor? First, let me say that I haven’t been this excited about being a financial planner since 1999, when my Merrill
provide empathy during major life transitions like divorce or the death of a spouse. This doesn’t mean you don’t need a highly competent advisor overseeing the process and double-checking AI outputs. Ultimately, I believe AI will lower costs while improving the quality of the client experience and outcomes. As an advisor, the most rewarding part of my work is being face-to-face with clients, having deep and meaningful conversations about the things they care about most, or helping them navigate significant financial issues. I can't tell you how many times I have sat down with a couple who couldn’t see the forest for the trees— who were so caught up in the emotion of a situation that they couldn’t rationalize their way out of it. Or those who believed their finances were holding them back from their dreams when, in reality, they already had everything they needed. I personally don’t see AI replacing those types of conversations any time soon. So, I guess my answer is: AI won’t replace advisors, but advisors who use AI will replace those who don’t. AI is truly amazing and is improving at light speed. If you haven’t explored AI yet, I can’t encourage you enough to do so. You can start simply by picking a topic and having a discussion. If you want to take a deeper dive, there are plenty of free resources. Many universities have free online classes for beginners, and many of the tech giants will let you audit their certificate programs. If you simply search for something like, “beginner friendly AI courses,” you will be shocked at the options. I can’t wait to see where AI is next year at this time.
Lynch manager, Bob Moossy, handed me a phone book and said, “It’s time to pay the piper.” It was finally “Go time”! I get it; not everyone is on board yet. Recent surveys show only about 20% of clients are comfortable receiving financial advice from AI. Another study shows only about 46% of advisors are using AI, and most of them are just scratching the surface. But let's not forget that critics thought the telephone was going to “tear apart the fabric of society” by eliminating the need for face-to-face meetings. Light switches were once so terrifying that President Benjamin Harrison had White House staff operate them for him to avoid touching the "dangerous" current. More recently, people would get disconnected trying to use AOL to access the internet and think, "This will never amount to anything." My excitement centers on AI as a force multiplier for time-consuming back-office tasks. AI is exceptional at analytical intelligence—tasks like crunching numbers, tax-loss harvesting, or portfolio rebalancing. However, it lacks wisdom and emotional intelligence, such as navigating complex family dynamics or helping a client stay the course during market volatility. AI cannot act as a fiduciary with legal and ethical obligations to a client’s specific best interests, nor can it Chris Wendland
